🎄
A name for every branch
One ornament per person in the family, each with their name. Printed in red or green with a white or gold border, they read well from across the room and hang straight from the loop on top of the star.
🎁
Gift tags that stay
Tie the ornament to a present instead of a paper tag. Whoever opens the gift moves it to the tree, so the tag becomes part of the decoration rather than going in the bin.
🍽️
Place cards for Christmas dinner
The same name ornament, laid next to each plate or hung from a wine glass with a ribbon. Guests take them home, and next year they come back out with the decorations.

Ready in 3 steps

01

Type the name

Short names of three to eight letters work best at ornament size. Accents are supported. For a family set, keep the same font and size for every name so the ornaments match.

02

Adjust the star, loop and border

The tool opens with a star above the name, the loop centred on top and a 3 mm border. Swap the star for a heart or crown, change the loop size, or widen the border if you plan to print it in a contrasting colour.

03

Download and print flat

With an AMS or MMU, download the 3MF: the name and the border are already separate parts. With a single nozzle, print the STL and change filament once, at the top of the border. Thread a ribbon through the loop and it is ready.

More Christmas ideas

The same tool makes a name keychain for a stocking filler, and a cake topper that says Merry Christmas on the Christmas cake. For a photo gift, a lithophane of a family picture lights up in a window or in front of a tealight.

Frequently asked questions

60 to 90 mm wide is the usual size for a tree ornament. The tool opens at a letter size of 30, which suits a short name. Long names come out wider: lower the letter size, or check the width in your slicer and scale the STL there.
3 to 4 mm is enough: it stays light on the branch and prints in about 20 to 40 minutes. Keep the border at 2 to 4 mm wide so the loop and the star are firmly joined to the name.
Silk PLA in gold, silver or red gives the glossy look of a shop-bought ornament. Matte PLA reads better in photos. Glitter and marble PLA hide layer lines well. Indoors on a tree, ordinary PLA is fine; it only needs PETG if it hangs outside.
Yes. The border sits completely below the name, so the first layers are a single colour. Add a pause or filament change in your slicer at the height of the top of the border. It is one change per print, or one per plate if you print the whole family at once.
Mountains of Christmas is one of the 100 fonts, along with scripts like Great Vibes and Pacifico that join the letters and make the ornament stronger. Three fonts are free (Bangers, Bebas Neue and Black Ops One); PRO unlocks all 100.
You can design and preview without an account. To download you sign in with Google, and the first two downloads are free. Text3D PRO unlocks unlimited downloads and all 100 fonts for a one-time €4.99, with no subscription, which is handy when every name in the family is a separate file.
